Summer in Provence is a High summer collection with a fresh but wholly feminine palette. Based around soft sophisticated shades & shapes the prints take their inspiration from the blooms & the geometric patterns of the patterned fields, along with abstract paintings.

Fabrics would be based around clean cottons and silks, with lightweight, lofty hand feel. For the bottom fabrics cool crisp cottons in twills with stretch for comfort. Cashmere or cotton silk mix  sweater knits add a touch of luxury. Knits fabrics would be based around silk, cotton and rayon mixes for drape & hand feel.

Bali High is a Spring / Summer story that takes its inspiration from textures and patterns around the world. The colour palette is heavily neutral based with pops of colour inspired by the ocean and the blush of hibiscus flowers.

Pattern in this collection takes much direction from geometric tiles and texture found in India, Indonesia and some parts of Morocco. Embroidery and beading is a strong statement, along with touches of local batik methods engineered to fit the garments they adorn. Three dimensional techniques and touches of sequins bring a touch of glamour but always using authentic methods in modern patterns.

Fabrics are inspired very much by the more Natural looks: Linens, gauzy cottons, washed silks and crepey, cotton / linen mixed or marled, striated look jerseys with hints of rayon to add drape, along with yarn dyed tonal stripes.

Roman Holiday is a clean sophisticated Summer story. Inspired by a modern take on Roman Holiday. I wanted to imagine todays sophisticate in Rome, a woman inspired by art, architecture and travel, confidently incorporating her aesthetic into her sense of style.

The colour palette is again more neutral with touches of soft indigo tones and feminine cosmetic pinks. Prints are inspired by the reflections of nature and strong architectural and landscape shapes. Fabrics are about creating clean lines so are more structured cottons but always with a touch of stretch whether through bias cutting or added lycra. Silk and rayon blended wovens and knits and clean cottons keep the lines of the silhouettes clean.

Pacific Butterfly Kisses is completely inspired by West Coast attitude & Lifestyle. This is a fun & young casual collection all about life on or around the beach. So whether she's chilling with her friends on the beach or at the beach bar this collection has attitude that reflects that relaxed and confident feel.

The colour palette is about sun bleached tones and denim inspired wear. Prints looks hand painted, water colour inspired with elements of indigo dip dye looks, both on woven pieces and knits. This is a great jersey dressing & tee shirt story but would keep an element of maxi dressing and kaftans in order to add a touch of femininity. I also see this as a great swimwear vehicle to broaden the product scope.

Black Gold is a Strong transitional to Fall collection, inspired by the culture and strength of Southern Africa and the earthy wealth of a nation and its relationship with Gold.

I wanted this to be dominated by black with touches of neutrals and really bring dynamic shots of gold into the story. Print takes it direction from basket weaving, strong stripes in clashing angles and block printing, along with touches of abstract art for a softer look.

I wanted the shapes to be based around clean lines and block shapes, rectangular & triangular shapes that drape to create exciting angles, with colour blocking to accentuate the angles. Tee shirt dresses, tunics, with slim leg or drop crotch pants along with beautiful sweater knit pieces and wrap jackets are key here.

The Beach....This is a quick look High Summer collection responding to the prevalence of white coming from the Spring Catwalks this season, so is really based around the idea of colours that have been left out to dry! All dusted tones for a causal beach collection with white washed super pale pastel denim and cotton embroideries or cotton casual laces as the base.

All based around easy beach shapes that are either beach dresses or tunics / tops worn back with casual jean / shorts. Patter is really provided only through the texture of laces / eyelets / embroideries and wash - nothing else. Cotton knitwear is loose knits looks and gauzy in loose shapes.

Fabric Direction & Silhouettes would then follow.
Six womenswear design concepts spanning contemporary to casual design for the International discerning consumer, for both Fall 14 and Spring 14 ideas.

This is really to show my process. Having decided on the mood for each collection and the tone of the colour palette, prints and the fabrics I would then put a more specific fabric board together, followed by the key shapes - spanning knits & woven pieces.
